Panel Named for Sharia Law Review
Family solicitor Anne-Maire Hutchinson QBW QC (Hon), a partner at family firm Dawson Cornwall, is among the members of a panel set up by the home secretary to carry out an independent review of sharia law.
The panel will be chaired by Professor Mona Siddiqui, an expert in Islamic and inter-religious studies, and includes family barrister Sam Momtaz and retired High Court judge Sir Mark Hedley. It will be advised by two religious experts.
Its terms of reference are to explore whether, and to what extent, the application of sharia may be incompatible with the law in England and Wales, it is due to report next year.
