SQA Loan Fear if SRA Shakes up Training

Aspiring solicitors may be forced to take out expensive commercial loans to cover the cost of their training, if the Solicitors Regulation Authority presses ahead with its single qualification exam, junior lawyers have warned. At present, the cost of taking the mandatory LPC can be met by a professional studies loan, but that may change if the LPC is replaced. Leanne Maund, chair of the Law Society’s Junior Lawyers Division, said: ‘We’ve tried and tried to get the SRA to understand this, and the response was… “Well, you can just get a job and save, and then pay for it”.
